What is climate change?

Climate change describes a change in the average conditions — such as temperature and rainfall — in a region over a long period of time. NASA scientists have observed Earth’s surface is warming, and many of the warmest years on record have happened in the past 20 years.

What causes climate change?

There are lots of factors that contribute to Earth’s climate. However, scientists agree that Earth has been getting warmer in the past 50 to 100 years due to human activities. Earth has been changing for many years. But those changes occurred slowly, giving time for living creatures on Earth to adapt to the changing climate. But the speed of the climate changing now won’t give time for living species on Earth to adapt and hence, species will become extinct.

Certain gases in Earth’s atmosphere block heat from escaping. This is called the green house effect. These gases keep Earth warm like the glass in a greenhouse keeps plants warm.

Human activities — such as burning fuel to power factories, cars and buses — are changing the natural greenhouse. These changes cause the atmosphere to trap more heat than it used to, leading to a warmer Earth.

Why do we need to stop climate change?

We need to stop climate change because, if we don’t stop it then the following will happen-

  1. rise of temperatures
  2. rise in sea levels
  3. increase in rainfall
  4. shrinking glaciers
  5. increase in hunger and water crisis
  6. increase in floods
  7. health risks through rising air temperatures and heatwaves

How can we stop climate change?

We can help stop climate change by doing the following-

  1. Reduce the use of plastic
  2. follow the 3 r’s- reuse, reduce and recycle
  3. save water
  4. go green
  5. walk to wherever you can
  6. switch to green energy- examples of green energy are- Solar energy etc.
  7. save electricity
  8. not burn plastic
  9. Reduce smoking

Did you know?

Today, just today already more that 4 million tons of waste is dumped.

Fact

A wise man in the 19th century said “The Earth is our mother….Whatever happens to the Earth, happens to the children of Earth….All things are connected”. We all should think about this.

I found this video on climate change! I hope you watch it!😀
